DXN SPIRULINA An excellent source of Vitamin K
what is spirulina
pirulina is one of the oldest life forms on Earth. In fact, this blue-green microalgae is partly responsible for producing the oxygen in the planet's atmosphere that billions of years ago allowed the planet's originating life forms to develop. Spirulina is the world's first superfood, and one of the most nutrient-rich foods on Earth.
Spirulina has between 55 and 70% protein (more than beef, chicken, and soybeans), 8 essential and 10 non-essential amino acids, as well as high levels of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), beta-carotene, linoleic acid, arachidonic acid, vitamin B12, iron, calcium, phosphorus, nucleic acids RNA & DNA, chlorophyll, and phycocyanin, a pigment-protein complex that is found only in blue-green algae.
The name vitamin K comes from the German word “Koagulations vitamin.”
Vitamin K is an essential fat-soluble vitamin that plays an important role in bone and is needed by the body for blood clotting and other important processes.
Vitamin K is rarely mentioned, despite the fact that research shows it to be one of the most promising nutrients with beneficial effects on the brain, liver, skeletal system, and pancreas.
There are two types of vitamin K we have in our diet, vitamin K1 and vitamin K2. Vitamin K1 is found in vegetables where vitamin K2 also called menaquinone is found in dairy products and produced by the bacteria in your gut.
Several forms of vitamin K are used around the world as medicine
Vitamin K1 (phytonadione)
Vitamin K2 (menaquinon).
Vitamin K1 is generally the preferred form of vitamin K because it is less toxic, works faster, is stronger, and works better for certain conditions.
Vitamin K2 activates a critical protein required to bind calcium, thus strengthening the skeleton.
USES OF VIT. K
· To treat bleeding caused by medications including salicylates, sulfonamides, quinine, quinidine, or antibiotics.
· Vitamin K is also given to treat and prevent vitamin K deficiency, a condition in which the body doesn’t have enough vitamin K.
· To prevent and treat weak bones (osteoporosis)
· Relieve itching in a liver disease called billiary cirrhosis.
· Vitamin K2 (menaquinone) is taken by mouth to treat osteoporosis and bone loss caused by steroids to lower total cholesterol in people on dialysis.
· It is also used topically to treat rosacea (a skin condition that causes redness and pimples on the face).
· After surgery, vitamin K is used to speed up skin healing and reduce bruising and swelling.
· It is used to reverse the effects of “blood thinning” medications when too much is given; to prevent clotting problems in newborns who don’t have enough vitamin K.
· People apply vitamin K to the skin to remove spider veins, bruises, scars, stretch marks, and burns. New research is showing that Vitamin K2 may be beneficial for Alzheimer's disease, a variety of cancers, varicose veins and skin aging.
· vitamin K levels can depend greatly on the gut or digestive health.
Many studies show that since vitamin K can help with the symptoms of PMS, the opposite is also true- a vitamin K deficiency will only make these symptoms worse.
Healthcare providers also give vitamin K by injection to treat clotting problems.
Research suggests that higher dietary intake of vitamin K2 is associated with a lower risk of coronary calcification,
Vitamin K2 acts like a shuttle service that directs calcium in your body and can safely pull calcium out of your arteries and put it back in your bones where it belongs! When you’re deficient in Vitamin K2 , calcium goes rogue and ends up in the walls of your arteries causing “calcified” arteries.
Giving vitamin K to women at risk for very preterm births might reduce the severity of intra ventricular hemorrhage in neither preterm infantsnor the brain injuries associated with intra ventricular hemorrhage.
New research is showing that Vitamin K2 may be beneficial for Alzheimer's disease, a variety of cancers, varicose veins and skin aging.
Recent studies cited in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reveal that Vitamin K2 can have positive effects on alleviating osteoporosis and cardiovascular .
The daily value (DV) for vitamin K is 90 mcg for adults.
If the only thing you ate today was dried seaweed (spirulina). You would have to eat 3.15 cups in order to get your 100% recommended daily value of 90mcg of Vitamin K.
Spirulina of DXN provides more Vitamin K in a 3-gram serving 94% of the Recommended Daily Intake.
If you take antibiotics for more than ten days, you may need to increase your intake of vitamin K because antibiotics can kill the bacteria in your intestines, which is what allows your body to absorb vitamin K.
If you take blood thinning drugs, you may need to limit vitamin K foods.
Be careful if you take vitamin E supplements because vitamin E can interfere with how vitamin K works in your body.
